Karen McQueen

Karen McQueen was appointed to the position of Brazos County Clerk in 2001 after serving 20 years as a deputy clerk. She has served as a Director/Directory in Charge for Region VII on the County and District Clerk Association Board of Directors, and has also served on the Executive Board of the County and District Clerks Association of Texas, eventually serving as president. In her free time, Karen enjoys working outside, reading, quilting, and spending time with her granddaughter.

Responsibilities and Services

The County Clerk’s office has been in existence in Texas since 1836 as set out in Section 20, Article 5 of the Texas Constitution. The County Clerk’s duties, prerequisites, and fees of office shall be prescribed by legislation.

The Brazos County County Clerk’s office is the record keeper of Brazos County. Records filed, processed and retained by the County Clerk’s office include:

  • Birth Certificates
  • Brand Registrations (Livestock)
  • DD214s (Military Discharges)
  • Death Certificates
  • Marriage Licenses
  • “Doing Business As” (DBA) Records
  • Probate and Civil Filings
  • Real Estate Property Records (Our deed records for Brazos County begin in 1841.)
