The Commissioners Court is the governing body of Brazos County, consisting of the County Judge and four County Commissioners. All members of the Court are elected to four-year terms with the Judge being elected by residents countywide and Commissioners being elected by residents within their precinct.

Departments are led by non-elected County staff.
Courts are led by elected or appointed judges and adjudicate a wide variety of criminal and civil cases.
