The Commissioners Court is the governing body of Brazos County, consisting of the County Judge and four County Commissioners. The County Judge is the presiding officer of the Court, and despite its name, the Commissioners Court does not act in a judiciary manner.
All members of the Court are elected to four-year terms with the Judge being elected by residents countywide and Commissioners being elected by residents within their precinct. Commissioner elections are staggered by two years.
Court Meetings
Commissioners Court meetings are held twice monthly, generally on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, at 10 a.m in the Commissioners Courtroom, which is in the Brazos County Administration Building.

Responsibilities and Services
- Overseeing the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges in Brazos County that are not part of the state highway system.
- Approving hiring and setting salaries for most County employees.
- Appointing replacements for vacant elected positions.
- Create offices, boards, and commissions to fulfill certain needs.
- Entering into contracts with other local governments, the state, or private entities.
- Financial responsibility for the County, including setting the tax rate, authorizing expenditures and issuing bonds.
- Issuing bonds for the support of County projects and responsible for the management of debt created by the sale of those bonds.
